Okay, this was the toughest puppy to give up. We have only been fostering a short time (8 weeks adopting out an average of one a week). I thought the first puppy was hard, but we really got attached to this little guy. He was the last, but definitely not least, of the litter to find a home. Of the 9 surviving puppies in this litter, we fostered 4 of them. They were all loving, calm, sweet, playful yet gentle and well behaved (as puppies go…they still managed to put my fax out of service for a day). In fact, he almost ended our fostering days as we considered adopting him. I had to remind myself that I can provide one puppy a good home or help find many good homes. With two cats, a dog and a busy schedule a new puppy would at least temporarily put us off the foster list. Because we incorporate the fosters into our home in order to train them better for a permanent home, we get to know them very well. It isn’t hard to get a little attached to each one, but this guy was special. We decided he had to have an exceptional placement opportunity or we would choose to adopt him ourselves. Well, our boy found love at first sight or actually it found him. A passerby in the plaza saw him outside briefly….for maybe a minute and fell so in love she brought her family back to meet him. I didn’t even realize until they came back how enamored she had been during their brief meeting. Well, after extracting a solemn promise from Jacque’s two new human brothers (sister was excused because she is not even talking yet) that they would love him, play with him, and give him the best home possible we sent him off to his new family this evening. Oh yah, and boys remember you said you would bring him to visit often J! I don’t know who will miss him more me, my husband or Ruby, our dog who plays big sister to all the foster puppies. Mario, the cat, may even miss this little imp. We think Jacque will love playing with his new kids and appreciate having toys that someone (Ruby) isn’t stealing away. In fact, as he left he was chewing on his very own first toy. | |
